Franck Lebraly
Franck Lebraly is a Mediterranean artist whose approach is rooted in the light and cultural diversity of this sea. Born in Cannes, he carries within him the heritage of his parents, who were born in Morocco, and his Sicilian grandparents, a family background that embodies the unity and diversity of the Mediterranean basin.
Light, horizons, sea, lush vegetation. The influences of Picasso, Matisse, Klein and Cocteau resonate like a tribute in his works. Painting Mediterranean landscapes, scenes of sublimated everyday life, fragments of an old-fashioned south where light erases feminine forms and barely constructed pure lines. The elements intertwine to become one, a play of emptiness and fullness, like moments filled with emotions that fade away and are reborn.
Painting became a passion. On walls, ceilings, plates, canvases. He spent his childhood between his father’s art restoration work and the family cabinetmaking business. An artistic and graphic arts education led him to work in advertising as an art director for fifteen years in Paris, then he returned to his paintbrushes during the Covid era. He developed his own style with the work produced at the Hôtel Le Sud in Antibes. An ode to simplicity, light and colours. Few in number, primary, without addition. They convey the density of the sea, the sky, the dazzling brightness or the darkness of the night, awakening the senses and the quest for an imaginary, lost or impossible love.
“For me, Cannes is much more than just cinema. There’s nowhere else quite like it. With its geographical location, its setting, the red Esterel mountains plunging into the blue sea, and the Lérins Islands and their legends facing us. We are surrounded by palm trees that inspire dreams, a thoughtful emblem of everyday life. Combining authenticity and modernity, it has more than one asset to make our eyes sparkle day and night.”
